Pitch-System

The delicate alignment of the rotor blades to wind direction and speed has a critical influence on the efficiency and service life of a wind turbine. To consistently ensure the functionality of the pitch system in the rotor hub, the hydraulic fluid in the motors must be clean. The filter solutions from Filtration Group create an effective dirt barrier, thus ensuring the smooth operation of the pitch system.

Gearbox

The gearbox in a wind power system transforms the low rotational speed of the rotor hub into a higher speed for the generator. Only when this vital part of the system is working optimally, the wind is turned into electricity. Filter elements with the advanced PulseShieldTM technology filter the oil with a fineness of up to 3m, thus reliably separating the finest particles and oil aging products. This ensures a low wear and tear and thus also low-maintenance operation of the wind power system

Azimuth drive

The performance capacity of a wind power system also depends on the precision with which the rotors are aligned in facing the wind. To ensure that the nacelle moves together with the changing direction of the wind, the servomotor of the azimuth drive must run reliably. Filtration Group connects a service indicator to various customized solutions for the purification of the intake air and the hydraulic fluids, thereby facilitating efficient remote control of the system.

Braking System

Before excessive centrifugal forces act on the rotor blades, it is sometimes necessary to slow down or switch off the wind turbine in extreme wind conditions. A precise braking system slows the wind turbine down or stops it safely and quickly, thus preventing possible damage. So that the brakes are ready for use in an emergency, no foreign particles may accumulate in brake and hydraulic fluids. Filtration Group supplies suitable filter solutions that keep the brake system permanently intact.

Nacelle

In the nacelle of each wind turbine, drive and brake systems are used for the rotors and the nacelle itself. A climate control system keeps the equipment from overheating during continuous operation and harming the viscosity of the hydraulic fluids. But the ambient air that is drawn in must be filtered in advance. The nacelle conditioning unit from Filtration Group makes sure that dust, pollen and insects do not enter the nacelle, thereby facilitating the reliable continuous operation of the system.

For conditioning in critical control units and electronic systems in the towers of onshore and offshore systems, Filtration Group has developed a special Tower Conditioning Unit. It is used to filter out dirt, salt particles and moisture from the ambient air that is taken in. These particles collect on the patented DropSafeTM pocket filter, while the water is separated on the hydrophobic filter material using the proven coalescer process and accumulates in reservoirs upstream of the filter. The effective filter thus prevents corrosion on the turbine and ensures the efficient operation of the system.

Rain and spray, which accumulates in leak basins under the transformers, are often mixes with process oils. Before the water is drained into the ocean, components from Filtration Group filter the harmful substances out in accordance with the most stringent environmental standards. Filtration Group also offers efficient systems and seawater filters to separate salt water from oil and fuels. That in turn ensures the smooth operation of the system.

Gear oil filtration in wind turbines

The filtration of gear oil in a wind turbine is full of pitfalls: The oil must be filtered with at least 10 μm and this within an enormous viscosity spectrum that the temperature fluctuations in the wind farms bring with them. The pump must also be able to withstand these differences. The special customer requirement to install the system consisting of filter, pump and cooler as compactly as possible on the wind turbine gearbox required an individual and creative approach that would guarantee full performance.
